So to help you recover more quickly and more fully from some temporary affliction, to help you stay healthy when you are healthy, or to help you manage the symptoms of a long term chronic condition, we offer a meditation class to give you access to a simple but incredibly useful tool to develop a calmer, more balanced state of mind, a state of mind which is less easily brought down or agitated by the innumerable stressful things that happen to us.
One of the reasons why the word ‘stress’ is vague, is that it does not encourage us to be clear about the difference between what happens to us, and how we respond to what happens. Meditation cannot do much about most of the things that happen to us, influenced as they are by things as diverse as world economics, the weather, other people and traffic jams, but it can do a lot about how we respond to those things. If we are stuck in a traffic jam, for instance, it can make the difference between responding to that with increasing amounts of frustration, anger, resentment, boredom and anxiety, or responding with calmness and true patience. In the former case, the emotions we are being overrun by are emotions that will tend to affect our health adversely, and if such emotions as these get a grip on us on a regular basis, this can be a very significant factor in our health problems, whether these manifest as high blood pressure, headache or back pain. Meditation, amongst other things, helps us dwell more in more positive states of mind such as calmness, friendliness, even joy, which have nothing but positive effects on our health.
